Señor Guzman has liked Señorita Vargas for quite some time, but only from a distance. Señorita Vargas has not had the same feelings for Señor Guzman. Señora Castillo is a hulking woman who thinks she looks much younger than she is. She comes across Filipe at the market (el mercado). Filipe tries to be polite and refers to her as señorita.
Señora Castillo: Hola, Filipe. ¿Como estás?
Filipe: Bien, gracias. Y usted señorita, ¿cómo está?
Señora Castillo: Mal, Felipe, mal.
Felipe: ¿Porqué señorita?
Señora Castillo tells Felipe that she is lonely and would like some company.
Felipe, in a state of fright says: Lo seinto señorita Castillo. Then he quickly runs off in the other direction.
In spanish, two different forms of you are used. When talking to those you would normally address respectfully (such as señor, señora, señorita, doctor) we use the term ‘usted.’ We us ‘tú’ when we talk to someone on a first-name basis.
Little Red Riding Hood (Caperucita Roja) is walking through the forest and comes across Señor Fox (Señor Zorro)
Caperucita Roja: Buenas tardes, Señor Zorro. ¿Como está usted?
Señor Zorro: Muy bien, gracias. Y usted, ¿cómo está, señorita?
Caperucita Roja: Regular, Señor Zorro. Pero mi abuela is mal. Muy mal.
